Barack Obama ‘Disgusted’ by Harvey Weinstein Allegations

Former President Barack Obama has joined the long list of people condemning movie mogul Harvey Weinstein for his decades of alleged sexual harassment.

Following statements from George Clooney, Kate Winslet, Meryl Streep, Ben Affleck, and Dame Judi Dench, among others, Obama has released his own missive, revealing he and his wife, former First Lady Michelle Obama, are disgusted by multiple allegations of the high-profile film producer’s bad behavior, sparked by an expose in the New York Times last week (05Oct17).

As more women come forward with accusations of sexual assault and harassment, Obama writes:

Michelle and I have been disgusted by the recent reports of Harvey Weinstein. Any man who demeans and degrades women in such fashion needs to be condemned and held accountable, regardless of wealth or status.

“We should celebrate the courage of women who have come forward to tell these painful stories. And we all need to build a culture, including by empowering our girls and teaching our boys decency and respect, so we can make such behavior less prevalent in the future.”

Weinstein has reportedly entered rehab for sex addiction in Europe after the board at The Weinstein Company voted to terminate his role in the film house on Sunday (08Oct17).
