Bella Thorne’s new eyeshadow palettes have not gone down well with beauty fans.
Following in the footsteps of stars like Rihanna and Kylie Jenner, who’s on course to become a billionaire thanks to her Kylie Cosmetics brand, Midnight Sun actress Bella is moving into the make-up market with her latest venture, Filthy Fangs.
While she gleefully posted on Instagram that the kits had sold out in a day, Bella, 20, faced an instant backlash over the cost of the palettes. In both the Ocean Drive and South Beach versions, which retail for $50 and $60, respectively, there are nine shades on offer. However, there are 16 eyeshadows included in Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty palettes at a cost of $59, and 14 in ones sold by Kylie Cosmetics for $44.
And the comparisons didn’t stop there, as it was also pointed out by social media users that Bella’s Filthy Fangs offerings are similar to $20 palettes made by cosmetics brand Juvia’s Place.
Speaking about the similarities between the kits, a Juvia’s Place representative told The Hollywood Reporter: “We have no connection with (Filthy Fangs). We are not affiliated with them. Yes, we are aware of the painful and awkward similarities. It’s obvious they have done little to no research or they have bluntly stolen our concept which is unacceptable. We believe in originality and the brand you have mentioned lacks that. We have chosen to be light-hearted about the situation, after all, make-up is supposed to be fun!!”
The flame-haired star isn’t letting the criticism get her down though, and she’s been happily showing off colour swatches on her arm on Instagram.
The eyeshadows have now been restocked on the Filthy Fangs website, which also sells custom Bella Thorne T-shirts, rolling papers and plastic grinders, among other items.
