Ben Affleck has refused to address claims he knew about Rose McGowan’s sexual assault allegations against Harvey Weinstein, but insists he supports and believes her.

The former Charmed star called out the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice star on Twitter in October (17), claiming she went to him when they were co-stars on Going All the Way after she was allegedly assaulted.

Rose stated Ben replied, “Goddamnit! I told him to stop doing that.”

The movie star was asked about the actress’ claims during an appearance on Today on Friday (17Nov17), but insisted he didn’t want to comment on her specific experience.

“I don’t really want to get into other people’s individual stories because I feel like those are their stories and they’re entitled to tell as much or as little of those as they want,” he said. “I believe Rose. I support her. I really like and admire her tenacity and I wish her the best…”

Affleck spoke out against the producer days after an expose detailing his years of alleged sexual misconduct was published in the New York Times.

Ben, who worked with the movie mogul on films like Good Will Hunting, Shakespeare in Love, and Chasing Amy, explained he knew Weinstein was “sleazy” and a “bully”, but he was unaware of his bad behavior.

“I was brand new to Hollywood, I was 24 years old, I had never made a movie,” he said. “I didn’t know much of anything…”

However, he is now looking at what he can do to aid abused and victimized women, and has pledged to donate his residuals from his Weinstein films to organizations including Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN) and Film Independent.

“Those movies hold a special place in my heart and to now look back on it and think, ‘Gosh, some other people were going through something ugly and disturbing and terrible and terrifying while that was happening’…,” he added. “The only thing I could think to do was give my residuals from my Harvey movies to a couple of organizations that I think are making a difference and try to reconcile that and it’s sort of a way for me to feel better about that early stage in my career when I made those movies with him.”

Weinstein has denied all allegations of non-consensual sex.

Affleck also became embroiled in a harassment scandal last month when footage of a 2003 TRL interview, during which he appeared to grab presenter Hilarie Burton’s breast, resurfaced on social media. Affleck has since spoken out about the alleged incident, insisting he doesn’t remember groping Burton, but he has apologized.
