Benedict Cumberbatch has signed on to executive produce and star in limited TV series Melrose.

The show will be based on Edward St. Aubyn’s semi-autobiographical Patrick Melrose novels about the “aristocratic and outrageously funny playboy”.

Each episode in the five-part series will centre on one of the novels, Never Mind, Bad News, Some Hope, Mother’s Milk, and At Last. The series is slated to begin filming in New York, London and the South of France in August (17).

“We have been huge fans of these books for many years and David Nicholls’ adaptations are extraordinary,” Cumberbatch says.

Producers are currently searching for a director.

Cumberbatch isn’t the only actor to play Melrose – Jack Davenport portrayed him in 2012’s Mother’s Milk.
