Berlinale chief says U.S. attacks will affect content

The recently appointed head of the Berlin Film Festival has acknowledged
that the Sept. 11 attacks in the U.S. have influenced his selection of
films for next year’s event.

In an interview with the German film
industry magazine Filmecho/Filmwoche, Dieter Kosslick said that
he found it particularly difficult to watch violent films.

“At the
moment, I wouldn’t have the strength to say: ‘That is something for the
Berlinale,'” he told the magazine.

He noted that the festival plays a
political role and should do what it could to foster understanding
between cultures.
