Bernardo Bertolucci to lead the jury at Venice Film Festival

Oscar-winning Italian director Bernardo Bertolucci has been appointed the head of the 2013 Venice Film Festival jury. The Last Tango in Paris filmmaker will front a panel of judges, which will decide the winners of a string of prizes, including the prestigious Golden Lion, at the annual Italian gala.
It will mark his second time as the jury chair following his previous stint in 1983, when Jean-Luc Godard’s First Name: Carmen was awarded the top honour.
Bertolucci says, “At the time, what I wanted from films was surprise and enjoyment. I haven’t changed much since then.”
Venice festival director Alberto Barbera adds, “Few directors can bring together, like Bertolucci, a long experience with the fact of living in the present of cinematography.”
The line-up for this year’s Venice Film Festival will be announced in July (13), ahead of the event kick-off on 28 August (13).
