Big Sean forms movie production company

Rapper Big Sean is hoping to add movie mogul to his resume after launching a production company.
The Bounce Back hitmaker has set up Great Lakes Pictures with his friend and video director Lawrence Lamont, and admits he’s excited to see what the future holds for his filmmaking dreams.
“Right now, music is my number one focus,” he tells the Detroit Free Press. “But I can for sure see myself going into movies. We started a production company, and we’re just getting our feet wet.”
Big Sean, real name Sean Anderson, reveals he and Lamont were inspired by director F. Gary Gray to start the company and he has reached out to the filmmaker and rapper Ice Cube about the project.
“F. Gary Gray used to do Ice Cube’s videos and now he’s one of the biggest directors ever, so not only did they lead the way for us, but I feel like we would be shortcoming ourselves, we would be not taking advantage of a situation… if we didn’t show some type of evolution or take the road that those guys paved for us and go further or go in a different direction,” he says.
The production company news comes a week after enterprising Big Sean announced he has joined forces with Paul Glanz, the owner of theatre company Emagine Entertainment, to build a luxury movie theatre and concert venue, named The Sean Anderson Theatre, in his native Detroit, Michigan.
“We want to do something revolutionary with it,” he said last month (Feb18). “We don’t want to just make it a movie theatre, traditionally. We also want it to be a hub for entertainment for the whole community. We want people to have an incentive to go the extra miles, to travel into Detroit.”
