Billy Joel returns to alma mater

Rock legend Billy Joel returned to his alma mater in his native New York over the weekend (24-25Jun17) to share his words of wisdom with the Class of 2017.
The Piano Man was invited back to Hicksville High School in Long Island to deliver the commencement speech for graduates on Saturday (24Jun17), 50 years after he was a member of the student body.
Joel didn’t graduate at the time after missing a key English exam following a late-night piano bar performance, but he completed his studies 25 years later to earn his diploma and become part of the Class of 1992.
On Saturday, Joel was back on the podium at the school, where he urged the 400 seniors to think carefully about what they want to do for the rest of their lives.
“Pick a job that you like, because if you pick a job that you hate, your life’s gonna suck,” he quipped.
Joel, 68, was also treated to a rendition of his 1980s hit The Longest Time from the Hicksville High School Chamber Singers during the visit.
