Blackwell names fashion’s worst nightmares

Mr. Blackwell has spoken–and he says Anne Robinson is “fashion’s Weakest Link.” Goodbye!

The British game show host of NBC’s The Weakest Link topped Blackwell’s 42nd annual list of the world’s worst dressed women in 2001.

Blackwell proved he could dish it out just as well as Robinson, who is known for flattening her contestants with her acid-tongued remarks, by calling Robinson‘s frumpy, neogothic attire “Harry Potter in Drag…a Hogwarts horror!”

“Please pass the aspirin, unless you’ve got something stronger,” Blackwell added.

Coming in second on Blackwell’s fashion faux pas selections was pop teen queen Britney Spears, sliding down one notch from her top spot last year.

“[She is] rehashed Madonna…on a really bad day [with her trademark] wacky, tacky, belly-baring bombs.”

Others on the list included Juliette Binoche and Bjork for their disastrous gowns at the Oscar ceremony last March and pop trio Destiny’s Child, which Blackwell called “trilogy of taste-free terror hitting a crescendo of off-pitch kitsch. Three peas in a peek-a-boo pod.”

On the higher end, Julia Roberts topped Blackwell’s list of “Fabulous Fashion Independents for 2001,” which also included Oprah Winfrey, Diane Sawyer, Nicole Kidman, Penelope Cruz, Renee Zellweger and Katie Couric.

Blackwell said he thought about holding off on announcing his annual lists this year due to the “horrific events” of Sept. 11, but reconsidered.

“After some thought, I felt traditions (however frivolous) should continue…It may be good for a laugh!” Blackwell said in a statement.
