Blur star Alex James turns filmmaker

Blur star Alex James can add director to his resume after creating his first short film. The British bassist wrote and directed A Slice of Life, even penning a song, Superordinator, for the two-minute clip, which he shot in Los Angeles in March (13).
He says, “I’ve always been interested in film but had never got around to trying it for myself. Like everything else, it starts with an idea and as music is so much part of my life, it quickly became the focus of the short. I really enjoyed the whole film-making process, it was very accessible and a lot of fun… I decided to make a film about being carefree and happy, with a punchline that brings it all back to earth – the concept being: life is short, but music endures.”
James’ movie was made to launch the sixth annual online movie contest Virgin Media Shorts, which is open to amateur directors.
