Movie and TV legend Bob Hope‘s Toluca Lake home in California has been denied historic-cultural status.

Los Angeles City Council officials rejected the designation on Tuesday (28Feb17).

The late funnyman’s daughter, Linda Hope, was relieved by the vote because she had previously told the Cultural Heritage Commission and the Planning and Land Use Management Committee the designation would go against her father’s wishes.

She said he wanted the home to be sold and the cash donated to the Bob & Dolores Hope Foundation, which she chairs.

“My parents cared very much for those in need, and we ask that you do not deprive our foundation of much needed funds to help those suffering and those that served our country,” she said.

The Hopes built the Tudor revival-style estate in 1939 and it became the family’s main residence until Bob died in 2003. His wife passed away in 2011.
