Bollywood star Jiah Khan’s boyfriend granted bail

The boyfriend of tragic Bollywood actress Jiah Khan has been granted bail after officials decided he could not be “solely” blamed for her suicide. Aspiring actor Sooraj Pancholi, the son of Indian stars Aditya Pancholi and Zarina Wahab, was arrested on 10 June (13) amid allegations his behaviour drove Khan to take her own life a week earlier.
The claims related to a six-page letter Khan’s mother found at her daughter’s home in Mumbai, India, which allegedly included accusations of abuse and infidelity, and suggested the star was forced to have an abortion against her will.
However, 22-year-old Pancholi was granted bail on Monday (01Jul13), with the Bombay High Court declaring in a judgment, “No doubt that it was an unfortunate incident that a young girl has committed suicide. She must have been impulsive and he cannot be held solely responsible for it.”
The ruling also acknowledged Khan had made a previous suicide bid, adding, “She was in the relationship on her own volition. It all depends on the psyche of the person. It cannot be ignored that Jiah had suicidal tendencies. Earlier also she had attempted suicide, and it was the applicant (Pancholi) who took care of her.”
Pancholi has been ordered to surrender his passport and must report to the police every other day.
