Bolshoi dancer jailed for six years over acid attack

Russian ballet star Pavel Dmitrichenko has been jailed for six years for plotting a horrifying acid attack on Bolshoi boss Sergei Filin. Pavel was convicted of masterminding the assault, in which a corrosive substance was thrown in Filin’s face outside his home in Moscow in January (13), causing burns and temporary blindness.
The attack was sparked by a series of bust-ups between Dmitrichenko and the Bolshoi’s artistic director Filin.
A judge at Meshchansky District Court in Moscow sentenced Dmitrichenko to six years behind bars following his conviction on Tuesday (03Dec13).
The man who threw the sulphuric acid at Filin, Yury Zarutsky, was given 10 years in prison, and his getaway driver Andrei Lipatov got four years.
The three men were also ordered to pay Filin $105,000 (£70,000) in compensation, on top of the $1,500 (£1,000) Dmitrichenko has already handed over.
When sentencing the trio, judge Yelena Maximova said, “Their guilt in committing the crime has been established in full.”
Lawyers for Dmitrichenko are planning to launch an appeal.
