Bon Jovi puts “Ally McBeal” on hold

Singer and part-time actor Jon Bon Jovi has postponed his scheduled guest appearance on Fox‘s Ally McBeal to play some benefit shows back home, most notably an Oct. 20 concert at Manhattan’s Madison Square Garden featuring such performers as Paul McCartney, John Mellencamp and James Taylor.

“I want to lend my name and support to as many of these [benefits] as I can, so I told them, ‘Either delay it a month, or I have to withdraw,’ ” Bon Jovi told MTV News on Friday night after an appearance at the Twin Towers Relief Benefit at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park, New Jersey. “[Ally McBeal creator] David E. Kelley was really wonderful, because he completely understood and supported my decision wholeheartedly.”

Bon Jovi will begin shooting nine episodes of the series in November, reportedly airing in January of 2002.

Not much has been revealed about Bon Jovi‘s role on the show but some insiders are speculating that his character may be a possible love interest for the nettlesome secretary Elaine Vassal, played by Jane Krakowski.

Ally McBeal makes its fifth season premiere on Monday, Oct. 29.
