Former tennis ace Boris Becker’s Spanish mansion has been confiscated by authorities to pay off his outstanding debts. The German sports star was told by a court in Palma, Majorca that the nine-bedroom property would be auctioned off for $9.6 million (£6 million) after he failed to pay a builder’s bill of $544,000 (£340,000).
His lawyer, Matthais Kuhn, argued the real estate agent who sold Becker the property in 1995 should have to pay the bill for carpentry, plumbing and layering on a basketball court. His argument was rejected by the judge.
Becker will also have to pay an additional $32,000 (£20,000) in court fees and interest.
