Brad Pitt Breaks His Silence in First Interview Since Split from Angelina Jolie

Brad Pitt has quit drinking following his split from wife Angelina Jolie which he admitted has “ripped his family apart.”

The 53-year-old actor is father to 15-year-old Maddox, 13-year-old Pax, 12-year-old Zahara, 10-year-old Shiloh and eight-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox with his estranged wife, who filed for divorce last September (16).

Brad has been staying at his home in Hollywood Hills, California, since the split, and opened up to GQ Style magazine in his first interview since the couple announced their split.

The Mr. & Mrs. Smith stars have both agreed to do their utmost to keep the divorce case from getting ugly in court, and Brad went on to explain how the break up has affected the family.

“I just refuse. And fortunately my partner in this agrees. It’s just very, very jarring for the kids, to suddenly have their family ripped apart,” he stressed to GQ Style magazine. “If anyone can make sense of it, we have to with great care and delicacy, building everything around that.

“Our focus is that everyone come out stronger and better people – there is no other outcome.”

According to reports following Brad and Angelina’s split announcement, the actor’s reliance on alcohol was cited as one of the reasons for their break up. Angelina alleged that Brad was drunk in an incident involving Maddox on an airplane which led to Child Services being called, but he was cleared after an investigation last November.

And in the interview, Brad insisted he has ditched alcohol and started therapy in a bid to become a better man and live a cleaner life.

“Personally, I can’t remember a day since I got out of college when I wasn’t boozing or had a spliff, or something. Something. And you realize that a lot of it is, um – cigarettes, you know, pacifiers. And I’m running from feelings,” he continued. “I’m really, really happy to be done with all of that. I mean I stopped everything except boozing when I started my family. But even this last year, you know – things

I wasn’t dealing with. I was boozing too much. It’s just become a problem.”

Revealing he is now six months sober, Brad added: “I’m really happy it’s been half a year now, which is bittersweet, but I’ve got my feelings in my fingertips again. I think that’s part of the human challenge: You either deny them all of your life or you answer them and evolve.”
