Teen pop idol Britney Spears, who’s been in Europe to promote her new single and upcoming teen drama Crossroads, told reporters in Cannes on Saturday that she would love to marry boyfriend Justin Timberlake but she’s just too busy.
One topic that was not open for discussion however, was her supposed virginity.
“That’s private,” the 20-year-old singer said when asked the burning “has she, hasn’t she” question.
After years of saying she wanted to stay celibate until she was married, Spears went on to say that she regretted ever talking openly about her virginity.
“I wish I’d never said anything about being a virgin now, ” Spears said.
The teen couple however, is apparently not comfortable watching each other in steamy love scenes.
“It’s not so much jealousy but the first time it happened, I ended up in the bathroom and I’ve decided not to do that kind of thing now,” she said of seeing Timberlake kissing other girls in videos.
“Justin won’t watch some of the sexier scenes in my film either.”
Asked if she would give up her career for a family, Spears replied, “I would think I could do both. But if I had to choose, I would have a family.”
Spears also said she is looking forward to meeting soccer hottie Beckham later this month to film a Pepsi commercial for the World Cup. The commercial will feature world soccer players Ronaldo, Rivaldo and Juan Sebastian Veron in addition to Spears and Beckham.
“I think he’s cute,” Spears said of Beckham. “I’m hoping he’ll help me with the soccer moves for the commercial.”
Beckham is currently married to former Spice Girl, Victoria “Posh Spice” Adams.
Spears arrived in Europe on Thursday, although she is apparently not used to the time difference between Europe and the United States yet. Her mother Lynne told the official Britney Spears Web site that her daughter has been waking her up in the middle of the night, phoning from Europe.
“Brit called at 1:15 a.m. one morning and 4 a.m. the other time. She apologizes for about five minutes then we have a nice chat for about 30 minutes. We have to check in with each other at least every other day.”
