Broadway’s lights to dim for Jean Stapleton

The lights of Broadway’s theatres will be dimmed on Wednesday (05Jun13) to mark the death of beloved stage and TV star Jean Stapleton. The All in the Family star died on Friday (31May13) at the age of 90, and theatregoers will pay their respects before shows tomorrow night.
Stapleton’s career onstage in New York spanned five decades from her first roles in the early 1950s to her final Off Broadway appearance in a 2002 Lincoln Center Theater production of Horton Foote’s The Carpetbagger’s Children.
She made her Broadway debut in 1953 in the play In the Summer House and also appeared in the hit musicals Damn Yankees and Funny Girl, opposite Barbra Streisand.
