Broadway’s Mary Poppins to close

The musical, based on the children’s books by P. L. Travers and Dame Julie Andrews’ 1964 Disney film, opened in New York’s famed theatre district in 2006, but the production’s successful run is to come to an end.

The final curtain will come down on Mary Poppins in the spring (13) and the slot at Manhattan’s New Amsterdam Theatre will be filled by another Disney film adaptation, Aladdin.

Mary Poppins opened on Broadway in 2006 and has made over $288 million (£180 million) at the box office over the years.
