The Last King of Scotland actor will portray a young Professor X in X-Men First Class and Byrne has been cast as his love interest, Moira MacTaggert, a genetic mutation scientist, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The pair will be joined by the likes of Michael Fassbender (Magneto), Nicholas Hoult (Beast) and Alice Eve (Emma Frost), while Kevin Bacon is slated to play a villain.
Michael Vaughn will direct the superhero film, which is due for release in June 2011.
