The 35th annual movie event launched last month (Nov12), but as protests against Egypt’s new president, Mohammed Morsi, grow more violent, organisers of the festival decided to axe the official prizegiving.

In lieu of a ceremony, the winners were announced at a press conference.

Prizes went to Venezuelan star Vanessa Di Quattro (Best Actress) and Polish Marian Dziedziel (Best Actor), while French drama Rendez-vous a Kiruna won the Best Film award.
