The Wall Street star, who underwent treatment for throat cancer last month (Oct10), admits his 93-year-old dad has supported him ever since doctors told him he had the disease.
Douglas tells the Associated Press, “He really made an effort. He was back here almost 10 days. He came over every day. He was great.”
The actor also admits he has come to understand why his father was often absent when he was growing up, adding: “In those key years, when Kirk was doing five movies a year, if we saw him it was only out of his guilt… Kirk was all-consumed, was overworked. Probably like myself at a certain time in my life.”
