Actress Candice Bergen cut short a college date with Donald Trump because he was “a douche”.
The Murphy Brown star met the future president while she was a student at the University of Pennsylvania, and agreed to join him for dinner – but the then-18-year-old was far from impressed with Trump and didn’t stay out for long.
Candice recalled the disastrous date during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live on Wednesday night (13Sep17), when she remarked upon Trump’s wardrobe as he arrived to pick her up.
“He was wearing a three-piece burgundy suit and burgundy patent leather loafers in a burgundy limousine,” she remembered.
“I was home very early,” Candice shared, admitting they did not get along. “There was no physical contact whatsoever. He was a good-looking guy, and a douche.”
She also recounted the story in a pre-recorded interview with Harry Connick, Jr. for his daytime show Harry, which aired on Thursday (14Sep17).
“It was like a blind date,” she added. “He called me in the dorm, and I was bored.”
Meanwhile, Candice used her chat on Watch What Happens Live to share her sentiments about Trump’s wife, First Lady Melania Trump, by donning a navy sweater with the words “Free Melania” sewn onto the front.
The phrase references rumours suggesting the former Slovenian model feels trapped in her 12-year marriage.
