Captain America wins U.K. box office war

Captain America: Civil War has surged to the top of the U.K. box office in its opening weekend (29Apr-01May16). in cinemas.
The Marvel superhero movie, featuring Chris Evans as the title character, Robert Downey, Jr. as Iron Man and Scarlett Johansson as The Black Widow, made $20.9 million (£14.5 million).
The figure marks a reasonably successful opening for the Joe and Anthony Russo directed movie, although just below the mammoth opening of its DC Comics rival Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’s $21.1 million (£14.6 million).
Captain America toppled Jon Favreau’s computer animation filled adaptation of The Jungle Book, which dropped to second place with ticket sales of $8.4 million (£5.8 million).
Helen Mirren and Alan Rickman’s espionage drama Eye In The Sky was way back in third, making $764,872 (£528,811) in its second weekend in cinemas.
Fourth was another animal based animation, Disney’s Zootopia with $746,541 (£516,137) in box office takings.
Clinging on to its spot in the top five was Idris Elba’s own espionage thriller Bastille Day, which dropped from number three in the chart to number five. It made $484,198 (£334,761).
