British supermodel Cara Delevingne launched into a rant on social media after a journalist complained about the catwalk beauty falling asleep during an interview.
In a feature published online at Vogue.com on Tuesday (24Jun14), journalist Plum Sykes accuses Delevingne of being late to their spa meeting due to oversleeping and then dozing off after their joint massage. Sykes writes, “Dear reader, to misquote Oscar Wilde, can I say that to oversleep once for a Vogue interview may be regarded as a misfortune, but to oversleep twice looks like carelessness?”
She also suggests the reason for Delevingne’s tiredness was because she was pictured partying the night before.
The article prompted the model to launch into a rant on Twitter.com, writing, “Why do people in the industry lie so much???? They would rather see you fail than succeed. What happened to supporting each other… It’s even worse when your (you are) trying to fight people that have all the power because then you are powerless… All I can say is that I work extremely hard and ‘sleeping’ is proof that sometimes I work too hard. I apologise for being so ambitious.”
“This just shows that the fashion industry is not the most understanding or compassionate of industries… That only applies to the people that sit around not really caring and never really bothering to get to know you or what it’s really like.”
The journalist had not responded to Delevingne’s criticism as WENN went to press.
