Carol Burnett returning to TV with Amy Poehler comedy

Veteran actress Carol Burnett is returning to the small screen to film a comedy pilot produced by Amy Poehler.
The beloved comedy star is slated to front a new multi-camera comedy about a family who are allowed to buy the house of their dreams as long as they let the current occupant, an older actress played by Burnett, stay there until she dies.
The currently-untitled show will be executive produced by actress/comedienne Poehler under her Paper Kite banner and its deal with Universal Television. The show will air on the ABC network and be written by Michael Saltzman, who has acted as a producer on TV shows including Mad Men, Murphy Brown and Halt And Catch Fire.
“I called Carol, she loved the idea and character I came up with for her, added some hilarious notions of her own, and said she was on board,” he told Deadline. “I knew she and Amy had a great love and mutual respect for each other, and suggested taking it to Paper Kite, which Carol agreed would be an ideal pairing.”
Amy and her frequent collaborator Tina Fey heaped praised on Burnett when they presented her with the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Lifetime Achievement Award earlier this year (16).
“We watched Carol with our moms, and our moms taught us 90 per cent of what we needed to know to be the kind of women that we are today, and the other 10 per cent is Carol,” Poehler said. “We love her and we thank her.”
The series reportedly marks The Carol Burnett Show star’s return to television in a regular role after years of guest appearances and recurring parts, most recently in the Hawaii Five-O TV remake, as well as her first time starring in a sitcom.
