Singer Carrie Underwood has donated $10,000 to help a childhood friend and Oklahoma police officer with his medical expenses after he was injured in a traffic accident.
Justin Durrett lost control of his truck while on his way to work on 11 February (18), when he was thrown from the vehicle as it rolled off the road, with the truck eventually landing on top of the cop.
Luckily, the Assistant Police Chief of Checotah was able to escape with his life, suffering a broken neck, a bruised spine, and other injuries in the incident.
He was subsequently hospitalized in the intensive care unit, where he is continuing to receive treatment, but his extended stay is causing him to rack up the medical bills, and a GoFundMe campaign has since been launched to help him pay off the debt.
Carrie, who was raised in the town of Checotah, heard about the news and the fundraiser, and decided to help out by pledging half of the $20,000 goal, boosting its total raised by Tuesday (20Feb18) to just over $13,000.
The Before He Cheats hitmaker has yet to personally comment on the generous donation, but her contribution was noted by local reporter Tess Maune.
“DONATION FOR DURRETT: Checotah native and country superstar @carrieunderwood has donated $10,000 to Checotah Assistant Police Chief Justin Durrett,” she wrote on Twitter over the weekend (17Feb18). “The two were childhood friends who grew up going to the same church…”
Underwood has been laying low, working on new music, in recent weeks, after recovering from a nasty fall at her home in Tennessee at the end of last year (17). The singer broke her wrist in the tumble and needed stitches to her face.
