Carter stars pay tribute to beloved warm-up act

British pop band Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine have paid tribute to their touring talisman Jon ‘fat’ Beast following his death at the age of 51. The Only Living Boy In New Cross hitmakers employed Beast as a compere and warm-up act on tour, and he quickly became a hit with fans for encouraging them to bellow an insulting chant about his weight.
Beast became a permanent fixture at the band’s live shows, and the duo – Jim ‘Jim Bob’ Morrison and Les ‘Fruitbat’ Carter – have posted a message on their official website as a tribute to their pal following his death on Sunday (27Jul14).
They are also helping to promote an online campaign to raise money for Beast’s family.
The statement reads, “We were very saddened to hear that the legendary Jon Fat Beast passed away this morning. Our thoughts are with his family and friends. Jon’s legacy is many things but none of them are financial. If Carter fans would like to help give him a decent send off that would be brilliant.”
Beast had been battling ill health but the cause of his death has not been made public.
Morrison tells British newspaper The Independent, “He didn’t have any money and he had been in and out of hospital for the past few years. We got a message a couple of days ago that he was quite seriously ill then pretty much a day later we found out he had died…
“He was a very lovable character. He asked us to come on tour but we said no and he just turned up. The audiences really liked him.”
