Cate Blanchett is reportedly set to star in a West End stage adaptation of classic movie All About Eve.

The Australian actress is apparently teaming up with acclaimed theatre director Ivo van Hove to portray Margo Channing, an established but aging stage actress whose career and personal relationships are threatened when a young ingenue named Eve insinuates herself into Margo’s group of friends.

The role was famously played by Bette Davis in Joseph Mankiewicz’s 1950 film, which received 14 Oscar nominations, a record which has since been tied with Titanic and La La Land. It won six awards, including Best Picture, and remains the only film in Oscars history to receive four female acting nominations.

According to Britain’s Daily Mail newspaper, the play will be produced by Sonia Friedman, whose recent credits include Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? and Dreamgirls, and is being shopped around various West End theaters for a potential opening in spring 2018.

The Carol actress is no stranger to the stage with notable roles in Blackbird, A Streetcar Named Desire, Hedda Gabler and The Maids with the Sydney Theatre Company, for which her husband Andrew Upton used to work as artistic director, and she most recently made her Broadway debut in January (17) with The Present. She has worked on London’s West End before, in productions of Plenty and The Vagina Monologues.
