Celebrity Breakups: Carson Daly & Tara Reid

Duration: Together nearly two years; engaged nine months
Ages: 28 and 25
Previous pairings: Daly dated Jennifer Love Hewitt for a year but was unceremoniously dumped by her on Howard Stern‘s radio show.
Love story: MTV’s most popular VJ, Daly was in Cancun, Mexico, for the station’s spring break specials. Reid was a guest-judge on one. They fell hard for one another over a pitcher of margaritas. Reid came to visit Daly in New York City and never left. They became engaged in October 2000, and April wedding plans (with Reid’s Josie and the Pussycats co-stars Rachael Leigh Cook and Rosario Dawson as bridesmaids) were postponed so that Reid could fit in The Guest before the possible actors’ strike.
What went wrong? Before Daly’s publicist confirmed the split occurred sometime in late June, gossipmongers were having a field day. The New York Post had reported seeing Daly dallying with other women, while Reid snuggled up to Guest co-star Ashton Kutcher. The New York Daily News reported that the breakup came after several tries at making it work, including Daly’s weekend trip to Los Angeles in mid-June to try and patch things up. But Reid fanned the fire by telling the Daily News: “When something’s not right, it’s not right. I did everything I could to make the relationship work, and it didn’t.” She then mentioned, “When trust is broken, the relationship is over.” Hmm …
Post-split romance: None
What they’ve said: “He’s my soulmate, I swear to God,” Reid told Movieline just before their engagement last year. “He balances me out. This is the first time in my life I feel totally, 100 percent solid.”
