Chance the Rapper: ‘Becoming celibate saved my life’

Chance The Rapper’s newfound Christian faith has had a massive impact on his life.

The musician, 26, opened up about encouraging his wife to get baptized in an interview with Anaconda hitmaker Nicki Minaj for Tuesday’s (July 30, 2019) episode of her Queen Radio show. And during the chat, he revealed introducing 26-year-old Kirsten Corley to the new way of living, which involves celibacy, saved him when he was at his lowest.

“I need you to hear one song on my album that has my best verse that I written in my life,” he told the host. “It’s called We Go High. I explain that my wife literally saved my life by becoming celibate and going and getting baptized.

Sharing the impact the new lifestyle has had on the pair, he added: “It changed her life obviously, but we talking about me right now. It changed my life for real. Now I know exactly where my strength comes from.”

The I’m the One hitmaker, real name Chancelor Jonathan Bennett, and Kirsten have been dating since 2013 and share one child together, three-year-old daughter Kensli. The pair split in 2017, but reconciled in 2018, becoming engaged in July and getting married in March this year (2019).

Chance’s new album The Big Day was released last Friday.
