Chance The Rapper has purchased news website Chicagoist.

According to editors at ABC News, the Coloring Book rapper and activist first made the announcement in new track I Might Need Security, one of four songs he released on his website late on Wednesday (18Jul18).

“I bought the Chicagoist just to run you racist b**ches outta business,” the Chicago native rapped against a backing-vocal loop throughout that repeats “f**k you”, casually dropping the news of the deal between WNYC and Chance’s Social Media LLC, which aims to promote local investigative journalism, diversity, and representation for people of colour in media.

Chance’s acquisition was confirmed by former owners WNYC in a statement posted on the public radio organisation’s website on Thursday.

“I’m extremely excited to be continuing the work of the Chicagoist, an integral local platform for Chicago news, events and entertainment,” Chance said in a statement. “I look forward to re-launching it and bringing the people of Chicago an independent media outlet focused on amplifying diverse voices and content.”

The Cocoa Butter Kisses hitmaker, real name Chancelor Bennett, is well known for his community activism. Last March he donated $1 million to Chicago Public Schools and helped to raise another $1.2 million to help the underfunded education system.

Chance’s four new songs; I Might Need Security, Work Out, 65th & Ingleside, and Wala Cam are available via his website at chanceraps.com and all major streaming platforms, including; Apple Music, Spotify, YouTube, Tidal, Amazon Music and SoundCloud.
