Chance The Rapper has heaped praise on his “big bro” Donald Glover for introducing him to The Lion King director Jon Favreau and helping him score a small role in the movie.
The No Problem hitmaker was among the stars in attendance at the world premiere of the live-action film in Los Angeles on Tuesday (July 9, 2019), and in a lengthy Instagram post on Wednesday, Chance revealed he had started out serving as a “consultant” on set, having been a superfan of the Disney franchise since he was a kid.
“Here’s a short story. I grew up my whole life obsessed with all things related to #TheLionKing; like all three films, the Timon and Pumbaa tv show, the broadway play and especially the broadway soundtrack,” he wrote.
“Needless to say the original film was immensely impactful on my music and overall life. So when my big bro Donald got casted (sic) as Simba, he did the coolest thing ever and told director Jon Favreau to call me in as a consultant to keep the original flavor (of the classic 1994 animated release).”
Chance explained he made multiple visits to the Disney studios during the early stages of the film’s development before Favreau invited him to lend his vocals to the soundtrack, and even take on a small part in his dream project – and the 26-year-old still cannot believe his luck.
“One day I’m there Jon asked me to do some singing stuff, another day he asks me to do some lines,” he continued. “Its all a blur, but I’ll tell u its one of the best blurs of my whole life (sic). I am so blessed to know people like Donald and Jon man (sic).
“AMAZING FILM, AMAZING CAST AND AN AMAZING NIGGHT (sic) LAST NIGHT. GOD BLESS AND LONG LIVE THE KING”.
The live-action adaptation of The Lion King also features Beyoncé as Nala, alongside James Earl Jones, Seth Rogen, and Chiwetel Ejiofor, among many others.
It opens in theatres next week (July 29, 2019).
