Charles, Prince of Wales warned over phone-hacking scandal

Police have found evidence that the heir to the throne and his partner may have had their voicemail accessed by a private investigator employed by the British tabloid, which shut down on Sunday (10Jul11) amid the scandal.

Britain’s The Guardian newspaper reports that the couple’s personal phone details were discovered in the PI’s files, which were seized by police in 2006.

A source at Buckingham Palace tells The Guardian, “The question that has to be answered is: if somebody had access to this evidence back then, why didn’t they do something about it?”

The newspaper was closed by owner Rupert Murdoch after it emerged the illegal interception of cell phone voicemail messages was more widespread than initially thought.
