Charli XCX felt empowered teaming up with Dua Lipa for surprise performance

Charli Xcx loved teaming up with a group of “powerful” female musicians to perform a special version of Dua Lipa’s single Idgaf recently.

The special all-female collaboration, which also included Scandinavian singers Zara Larsson, MO and Chasing Highs star Alma, was unveiled on Wednesday (21Feb18), the same day Dua will perform at the BRIT Awards, where she is the first female artist to achieve five nominations in one year.

Footage of the performance, which was part of BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge series was shared on social media and the four singers can be seen standing behind Dua as she sings lead on her recent single IDGAF, which stands for I Don’t Give a F**k. They can be seen harmonizing and joining in with the chorus.

Charli XCX, who recently said she wanted to curate an all-female tour, has now written a note on Twitter, explaining to her followers how much she loved the experience.

“Collaborating with people has always been my favorite thing to do, but collaborating with women puts me on some kind of magical power s**t,” she wrote. “women together are powerful and wild and beautiful and f**king fun!!

“Being a part of dua’s live lounge with mo, alma and zara was really special and exciting. we are all different artists with different stories to tell but coming together to scream IDGAF at the top of my lungs with 4 other women I deeply respect felt really empowering and really f**king good. thank you dua for having me (sic).”

Dua, 22, shared the video and wrote in the caption, “We did a special @BBCR1 live lounge for you while we were in LA! So lucky had my girls @zaralarsson @MOMOMOYOUTH @almacyber @charli_xcx with me singing IDGAF!”

The British singer also sat down with BBC Radio 1 for a short documentary, Dua Lipa: Hotter Than Hell, in which she said female musicians are on the rise.
