Chelsea Handler Donates $1 Million to Puerto Rico Relief Efforts

Chelsea Handler has donated $1 million to a Puerto Rico disaster relief organization after quitting her Netflix show to devote more time to activism.

The funnywoman announced the news on her Twitter page on Thursday (19Oct17), while calling out President Donald Trump and other conservative figures for not doing more to help those affected by the recent hurricane in Puerto Rico.

“I just gave 1,000,000 dollars to Unidos Por Puerto Rico. Where r ur (are your) donations, Koch Bros. Mercers, @realDonaldTrump? Day 1 of activism,” Chelsea tweeted.

Her donation came just hours after she revealed she’d decided to walk away from her Netflix program after two seasons to become more involved in worthy causes.

“Like so many across the country, the past presidential election and the countless events that have unfolded since have galvanized me,” the 42-year-old wrote on Twitter. “From the national level down to the grassroots, it’s clear our decisions at the ballot box next year will mark a defining moment for our nation.”

She added, “For these reasons, I’ve decided not to return for another season of Chelsea, and instead devote as much time as I can to becoming a more knowledgeable and engaged citizen and to focus on projects that have significance to me.”

Handler’s partnership with the streaming service will continue for an upcoming documentary.
