U.S. TV personality Chelsea Handler is teaming up with online streaming service Netflix to create a new online talk show.
The news comes just weeks before she wraps her long-running late night U.S. chat show Chelsea Lately, which will come to an end after a series of special installments on the E! network in August (14).
Handler’s deal also includes a one-off stand-up show for Netflix, and four “docu-comedy” specials, which will focus on the star learning about subjects such as politics and basketball.
She says in a statement, “If I was going to continue working in this industry, I knew I had to do something outside the box to keep myself interested. I wanted to sit with the cool kids at lunch so I approached Netflix to make sure they were as cool as I thought they were, and when I confirmed my suspicions, like with any other future lover, I made my move. I’m more excited than I’ve been in a while, and the team at Netflix is the most forward-thinking, alert group I’ve sat down with in ages.”
The stand-up show, which will be taped in Chicago, Illinois this month (Jun14), will air on Netflix in October (14). It will be followed by the four specials in 2015 and the talk show, which will begin in early 2016.
