China cracks down on porn, CNN, BBC

Claiming that they were permitting access to porno and “subversive”
sites, the Chinese government last week shut down more than 17,000
Internet cafes operating on the mainland and has ordered others to block
access to CNN and the BBC, the London Mail on Sunday reported,
citing an unnamed Shanghai newspaper.

A government statement quoted by
the newspaper also claimed that Chinese youths at the cafes were playing
“unhealthy games and adversely affecting their normal development.”
