Chris Brown’s Toronto show in jeopardy

Chris Brown’s upcoming show in Toronto has been thrown into jeopardy following a public outcry over his inclusion in another concert in Canada. The singer’s place on the bill at the Energy Rush event in Halifax on 31 August (13) has sparked anger among locals, who have started a petition calling for the controversial star to be pulled from the line-up, while a number of sponsors have dropped out and the city’s mayor has also criticised organisers for hiring Brown.
The petition garnered almost 13,000 signatures in just four days and the number continues to rise.
The Kiss Kiss star has now been dealt a further blow as promoters behind his upcoming concert in Toronto on 26 July (13) have confirmed they are considering calling off the show.
Sky High Productions founder Baljot Saral, who is organising the gig at the city’s Kool Haus venue, insists the concert may be postponed until after the Halifax controversy dies down.
He tells the Toronto Star, “(We may try to pick) a time when there’s more quietness in the industry and where it’s not a lot of bashing on him (Brown)… It’s a lot of bad press. They (sponsors) don’t want to tarnish their own name. I guess that’s also maybe the reason why we’re looking to reschedule. Just let things cool off.”
However, Saral insists the company still wants to work with Brown despite his issues, adding, “We’re still up for doing business with him… Regardless of what the news says about him, he’s still legitimate for business.”
A final decision over Brown’s Toronto gig will be made “within the next day or so.”
Brown’s problems were stepped up this week (beg15Jul13) when a Los Angeles judge revoked the star’s probation over accusations he fled the scene of a car accident in May (13).
The singer’s probation stems from his 2009 assault on then-girlfriend Rihanna and he faces up to four years in jail if found guilty of violating the terms of his agreement with prosecutors.
