Chris Evans doesn’t get recognized with a moustache

Chris Evans doesn’t get recognized when he grows a moustache because the facial hair “changes his whole face”.

The Captain America actor is currently starring in Broadway show Lobby Hero, which opened at the Helen Hayes Theatre in New York last month (Mar18) and also stars Michael Cera, Brian Tyree Henry and Bel Powley.

For his part as an overbearing police officer, Chris has grown a moustache, and during an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers on Monday night (23Apr18) he discussed some of the perks of having facial hair.

“I know it’s just a moustache but it changes my whole face,” he smiled. “I can look people dead in their eyes. Not only do they not recognise me but you get some strange looks – you get moustache profiled. Now what would I be? It’s either a cop or porn (actor).”

Chris went on to explain that he doesn’t have a moustache in the photograph taken for the cover of the show’s playbill because the photoshoot occurred last year while he was reprising his role as Steve Rogers for Avengers: Infinity War.

During the chat, the star also talked about the main difference between shooting films and acting on the stage.

“A lot of movies, you don’t always get rehearsal time. You shake an actor’s hand and then you’re doing a scene with him,” the 36-year-old explained. “But with a play there is a lot more rehearsal time, more prep. It’s a lot nicer. That’s why I wanted to do it. A lot of my actor buddies were like, ‘You’ve got your whole day, it’s only two hours at the theatre.’ But it’s such a focused two hours – you leave the theatre and you’re spent.”
