Chris Pine doesn’t get the fuss over Outlaw King nude scene

Chris Pine doesn’t understand why his full-frontal nude scene in Outlaw King has caused so much fuss, when his co-star Florence Pugh’s didn’t.

The Star Trek actor bares all for the first time on camera in the historical drama, in which he plays legendary warrior Robert the Bruce, who recruits a team of bandits to help him reclaim the throne in Scotland after he forced into exile by the English.

The scene, in which he briefly lets it all hang out as he’s cleaning himself in a cold lake, has been the focus of attention, but Chris doesn’t understand why, because his co-star Florence gets naked too and nobody’s talking about that.

“I bear the ‘full monty’ and it got a lot of attention,” he said on The Graham Norton Show. “I thought the witty reviews were brilliant but what did strike me most is that Florence Pugh bares everything too and no one commented. I am not sure what that means. Either people think they can’t comment or everyone expects women to get naked. Either way, it’s double standards.”

Director David Mackenzie echoed his sentiments during a chat with Metro.co.uk at the film’s London Film Festival premiere, saying: “It’s a man getting clean in a cold Loch – you don’t do that with your clothes on. And it’s micro seconds, it’s ridiculous all the fuss about it.”

Talking to Graham, Chris explained how he knew he’d get “crucified” for attempting a Scottish accent for the part so he used a voice coach and his Scottish castmembers for help, and also carried on using it during breaks to make sure he didn’t lose it.

“I am not a method actor, but I would keep up the accent in the pub after filming. I was entirely pretentious!” he joked.
