Chris Pine loved period feel of Wonder Woman

Chris Pine was surprised at how “wonderfully period” Wonder Woman feels, all the while staying true to its superhero roots.
Fans are eagerly anticipating the release of the Marvel movie next year (17), with Gal Gadot taking on the famous role after making her debut in this year’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Chris is no stranger to the action franchise having starred in the Star Trek movies and Jack Ryan, but he especially enjoyed going back in time for Wonder Woman.
“World War I is a period we don’t really see often; it’s usually World War II,” he told America’s OK! magazine. “Steve (Trevor, his character) is a worldly guy who’s seen the brutish nature of modern civilisation. It’s going to be a great, fun film with some incredibly deep and morally relevant themes. It feels wonderfully period, but it also has this pop sensibility.”
Quizzed on whether he preferred working on the comic book flick or sci-fi franchise Star Trek, Chris reasoned they’re too different to compare. He does have a soft spot for films set in the past though, with his latest movie The Finest Hours about a rescue mission to save a stranded boat in the early ’50s. It’s the attire in particular he’s a fan of, as he loves people’s dress sense back then.
The Finest Hours was a tough shoot for the cast, also including Casey Affleck and Eric Bana, as they wanted to make it as realistic as possible, which required them to get wet.
“Yeah. The ocean’s big and deep, and the waves…” he replied when asked if he has a fear of the sea. “There’s a line I say in the movie: ‘What’s underneath all that water? Just more water.’ I would say a lot more water! It’s really scary.”
