Chris Young honoured with namesake cafe at former college

Country star Chris Young has been honoured by academics at his former college, who have named a renovated venue after him.
The singer, who attended Middle Tennessee State University, was stunned to learn the campus’ new space would be named the Chris Young Cafe.
“They were talking about wanting to re-purpose the space and I was like, ‘Man, that’s a really cool idea’,” Young told Taste of Country. “So, I told them that I would love to be a part of it, and they were like ‘Cool, because we are going to name it after you’.
“I was very honoured. It’s such a cool thing, and especially because it will create a space where not just performers but anyone who wants to be a manager or a booking agent or audio engineer can all be there in that space and learn there.”
Young also handed university officials $50,000 (£40,000) towards the renovations.
“I’ve been talking with them about a lot of different things,” Young added. “They’ve got a great programme there. Their media and entertainment college is one of the best in the country.”
The Chris Young Cafe opened last week (ends19Jul19).
