Chrissy Teigen has boycotted a brand in protest of the designer’s views on in vitro fertilization (IVF).
The model and her music star husband John Legend have been open about their fertility struggles in the past, and conceived their first baby, 20-month-old daughter Luna, through the technique, and are currently expecting their second child.
Taking to Twitter on Tuesday (02Jan18) to condemn YouTube personality Logan Paul for depicting the body of an alleged suicide victim in Japan in a video, Chrissy encouraged users to “stop watching and move on” and cited an instance of her own stance on such behavior.
“An example I have is with a certain clothing company,” the 32-year-old wrote. “Years ago the designers said things I personally found horrible about IVF children. I made the choice to simply…never wear or purchase again instead of trying to ‘end them.'”
While Chrissy did not clarify what brand she was referring to in her message, it is likely to be Dolce & Gabbana. In the March 2015 issue of Italian magazine Panorama, designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana sparked a backlash when they remarked, “We oppose gay adoptions. The only family is the traditional one,” and criticized IVF and surrogacy by stating, “No chemical offspring and rented uterus: life has a natural flow, there are things that should not be changed.”
Celebrities including Madonna, Victoria Beckham and Elton John, who has two children conceived through IVF and a surrogate, expressed anger over the comments, with Dolce and Gabbana later toning down their position on the topic, claiming they “love everything”.
Chrissy’s comments come after she set her social media pages to private recently, following a tweet from an account that linked her and John to the Pizzagate conspiracy theory in late December (17). She is now back online, with John threatening to take legal action against the individual over the “pretty disturbed” accusations.
