Ciara responds to backlash over ‘how to find a husband’ social media post

Ciara has hit back after being criticised for her social media post on how women can find a good husband, insisting she had merely been encouraging her peers to learn to love themselves.
The Goodies singer, who wed American football star Russell Wilson in 2016, took to Instagram on Saturday evening (20Jan18) to share a clip from South Carolina-based preacher John Gray’s 2016 sermon, in which he listed the things women can do to find a mate.
However, her post didn’t go down too well with followers. One user, @CiCiAdams, wrote: “Ciara, honey, no. We rooted for you when you were going through your mess. I’m so disappointed that you would share something so silly.
“What pastor John Gray is saying here is intellectually lazy and a twisting of scripture. That’s not what Prov. 18:22 meant at all.”
She added: “Ciara is doing what many women do when they overcome trials and get married. She’s using her marital status as a weapon against women who are not married.”
@KevCoke6 added: “Ciara’s playing a dangerous game. You should never, no matter how perfect your relationship/marriage appears to be, sit on a throne and tell people why they’re not romantically successful. You can be the queen of the ball today and have cake in your face tomorrow!”
Ciara, who shares a three-year-old son with ex Future as well as having eight-month-old daughter Sienna with Russell, responded to the backlash with a post on Instagram on Sunday, writing: “I was once that girl wanting to be loved a certain way bit was making the wrong choices. I found myself at my lowest moment.
“I was a single mom sitting at home, and then I realised that the perfect love I was looking for was how God loves me, how He wants me to be loved, and who He was calling me to be as a mom and a woman. That’s when I realised married or not married… I needed to love myself. #LevelUp.”
