Clifton Collins Jr. Joins Guillermo Del Toro’s ‘Pacific Rim’

clifton collinsThe cast for Guillermo Del Toro‘s new film Pacific Rim is quickly filling up. And with each cast member, it’s clear that this isn’t going to be your typical action film. The film stars Wire alum Idris Elba, and It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia‘s Charlie Day just joined the cast in his first major dramatic role. Now, character actor Clifton Collins Jr. has signed on to the project. It’s not clear what role Collins will play in the sci-fi epic, but it’s not the actor’s first foray into alien territory – he appeared as a Romulan in Star Trek. The actor is also known for his critically-acclaimed roles in Capote and Traffic.

Pacific Rim, which marks Del Toro’s first return to the director’s chair since Hellboy 2, is a science fiction adventure set in the distant future, where humans must battle alien invaders in giant robot suits. Think Evangelion, but with the visual style of Pan’s Labyrinth. Are you done screaming yet?

Collins can next be seen with Jason Statham in Parker, and in Indie comedy Freeloaders.
