Clooney meets with Obama over Sudan

The Hollywood actor has long been involved with projects in the troubled Darfur region of the Sudan and filmed a documentary there in 2008 to chronicle the atrocities after the country was embroiled in civil war.

Clooney returned to the region this month (Oct10) amid fears growing tensions could boil over into further conflict as the Southern Sudanese prepare to vote for independence.

He has now taken his concerns to the American leader – the pair met in Washington, D.C. and Clooney urged Obama to take diplomatic action to help prevent violence in the country.

Speaking after the meeting, Clooney told reporters, “We have got 90 days to do this, it doesn’t cost a dime and it doesn’t cost any lives and no American troops. This is not a right or left issue…

“There are pressures that we can put on the government that we in many ways in the United States have already used up – short of military power – and no one is suggesting that.”
