CNN essentially shut down its CNN Airport Network following Monday’s
crash of an American Airlines plane following take-off from John F.
Kennedy airport in New York.
A spokesperson for the news channel told
today’s New York Times that the reason for blocking
news of the crash is that people in airports are a “captive audience”
who would be unable to avoid seeing frightening images if they chose to
do so.
However, the Times reported, CNN Airport Network did not
block any of the news on Sept. 11.
