Cole apologises for Egypt comment

The style guru took to his Twitter.com page on Thursday (03Feb11) to remark on the protests in the Egyptian capital, writing, “Millions are in uproar in Cairo. Rumour is they heard our new spring collection is now available online …”, and then posted a link to the fashion collection’s website.

The message sparked outrage, and Cole has now said sorry for the gag. He writes in a subsequent post on Facebook.com, “In hindsight my attempt at humour regarding a nation liberating themselves against oppression was poorly timed and absolutely inappropriate.

“Important moments like this are a time to reflect. To remind us, sometimes, that it’s not only important what you wear, but it’s also important to be aware.”
