Cole Sprouse had a childhood crush on Friends co-star Jennifer Aniston

Cole Sprouse had a childhood crush on his Friends co-star Jennifer Aniston.

The actor is now known for playing Jughead Jones on TV show Riverdale, but one of his first roles was as Ben, the son of David Schwimmer’s character Ross Geller, on the hit ’90s sitcom.

During an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Thursday night (01Nov18), host Stephen pulled out a photo of a young Cole on set with Jennifer, who played Rachel Green, and he confessed, “That’s when I fell in love with her, yeah.”

“You had a crush on Jennifer Aniston?” asked Stephen, before the star quipped: “Didn’t everybody? I remember feeling so, so intimidated by my crush on her that I completely blanked and forgot every single one of my lines, and she just stared at me and was waiting.”

During the chat, Cole spoke about his decision to take a five-year hiatus from Hollywood to study archaeology, and how he performed digs in both Asia and Europe, and actually unearthed a mask of Dionysus while in Bulgaria.

However, he decided to check out acting roles again two years ago and was quickly cast in The CW’s teen drama series Riverdale, which is based on the characters of Archie Comics.

“My manager begged me to come out for pilot week, and I was doing photography and archaeology and I said, ‘If I don’t get anything, I don’t think I’m going to come back,’ and then sure enough I booked Riverdale and it just sort of fell into place,” the 26-year-old commented.

Cole appears opposite KJ Apa, Camila Mendes and his real-life girlfriend Lili Reinhart in Riverdale, with Luke Perry and Madchen Amick playing the parents of the main characters.

And he insisted that the younger castmembers often give the more senior actors tips on how to use social media.

“Many of the younger cast members who have been so in-tune with social media, since they’ve gone through this entire vetting process, have actually educated some of the older members of the cast on if it’s OK,” he smiled.
